HISTORY OF THIS COCKTAIL
The Cosmopolitan, a stylish pink concoction in a martini glass, best known as the signature cocktail in the 1990s for the cast of “Sex and the City”. Before that, it was favoured by celebrities ranging from South Beach to New York City to San Francisco.
While the cocktail is widely perceived to be a more modern creation, there is a strikingly similar recipe for a cosmopolitan which appears in an editorial, published in 1934.
It was initially called the Vodka Gimlet. A Gimlet was made because you needed to add something to vodka or gin, due to the spirits being made so poorly.
The Cosmopolitan is one of the few cocktails that hit the right note from the beginning, and it still continues to attract attention today.
